Description

This exquisite silver dish shows Ariadne, the immortal wife of Dionysos, the Greek God of Wine and Revelry, while another dish in the exhibition shows the god himself. Gilded and in high relief, the eyes are inlaid with glass. Greek in style, they exemplify an ideal of courtly luxury extending from the Mediterranean to Afghanistan.
