Shipwreck was a constant threat to the Indo-Roman Ocean trade. To protect against danger, sailors carried amulets and figurines of the sea god Neptune – like this bronze found at Brahmapuri, Maharashtra. Was it a thanksgiving offering for a safe voyage?
