Description
Mourning the dead: a group of women – relatives or professional mourners – have gathered around the body in lamentation, beating their heads and wailing in grief. The deceased’s father sits nearby, while other men pay their respect.
Vessels of this type were normally used to carry water for the ceremonial pre-marriage bath. In this case, it was used to mark the tomb of an unmarried person.
