Description

This precious carnelian bead showing a sailing ship was found on the island of Crete, home to the Minoans – a civilisation centred on the city of Knossos. They grew rich through warfare and maritime trade. Ships like this brought carnelian and other high-value goods from the East. A sailor may have worn this to ward off evil.
